Groundbreaking Surgery May Change the Future

Former Australian wheelchair tennis champ, Marny Cringle, lost her leg 16 years ago. Since then, she has depended on crutches or a wheelchair for mobility because what was left of her leg did not fit with a prosthetic limb. But, medical professionals in Australia are hoping to change this in the near future. They are going to perform a groundbreaking procedure that will allow her to walk again.
They plan to fuse a bionic limb to her muscle, making the limb function like a natural leg. To prepare for this, Cringle has undergone several surgeries and treatment to lengthen her bone by two inches.  In April, her new limb will be attached to her femur and her muscle and bone will grow around it. In time, it will work as if it were her own.
Cringle explains that, for her,  this surgery means she can enjoy the simple things in life. She will soon be able to walk with both hands free without giving it a second thought. For amputees around the world, it means they will be able to use the one thing that was taken away from them after the injury. The success of this surgery opens the doors to new possibilities and will help change the future for those who have experienced an amputation.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Marny Cringle and others who have experienced similar injuries!
